A. It is the first letter of the Sanskrit Siddham alphabet. From it are supposed to be born all the other letters, and it is the first sound uttered by the human mouth. It has therefore numerous mystical indications.

A hùm. The supposed foundation of all sounds and writings. "A" being the open and "Hùm" the closed sound. "A" is the seed of Vairocana, "Hùm" that of Vajrasattva Kim cương tát đỏa, and boh have other indications. "A" represents the absolute, "Hùm" the particular, or phenomenal.
